Hold His Hand

It is natural for toddlers and young children to hold someone's hand as they learn to walk, cross the street, or if they are feeling scared. Obviously little ones need attentive care and guidance. Without a secure and trusted hand to hold, a small child won’t know where to go and certainly won’t feel safe.  On the other hand, an older child or teenager would be mortified at the thought of holding their parent's hand while crossing the street! I am a mom of two teenage boys and two pre-teen girls. Trust me, they would not be a fan of holding my hand while they cross the street! It is funny how quickly the tables turn.

A maturing child will one day let go of their parent's hand, but in the Kingdom of God, it is unnatural for us to ever let go of the hand of our Father. Sadly, many do let go and attempt to navigate life without the Helper, the Holy Spirit. As children of God we are completely dependent upon Him to lead us every moment of every day. Letting go of the Father's hand results in Christians who wander alone lost and feeling abandoned.

The Bible promises that He will never leave us nor forsake us. This is of course comforting and very true. He is faithful and will never abandon His children! It is God's children who forget there is a constant need of Him. Let's be honest - people are stubborn, prideful, and independent. Letting go of the hand of the Father results in leading ourselves astray. When we do this we become incredibly vulnerable, susceptible to deceit and exposed to greater attack of the enemy. Simply confessing our need for God, repenting, and reaching out ones hand in faith results in alignment with Him, protection and peace. It also aligns us to our purpose. There will be hardships and trials in life. We all know this. It is a comfort to know that peace and blessing are a promise to those who hold His hand; who don't let go no matter what.

So, I encourage you today to hold on to His hand as if your life depends on it, because it does.
